LG15 and OpAphid Reunited!
Hey Everyone,
As I mentioned in my last post, we have exciting news regarding the LG15 Universe. As you know, back in the early days of lonelygirl15 a fan just like you created an incredible LG15 spin-off called OpAphid. The OpAphid ARG added a dark and mysterious depth to the LG15 franchise and we were incredibly excited to see what someone could do with very few resources and a lot of talent and hard work. It truly inspired us and showed the potential of “social entertainment.” It’s what led us to found EQAL. We reached out and incorporated OpAphid in the LG15 narrative and hired its creator, Glenn Rubenstein, as a writer on lonelygirl15. For months, the OpAphid ARG was interwoven with lonelygirl15 and the two series elevated the franchise to its heights in terms of both audience and engagement. Unfortunately, in 2007 we parted ways with Glenn and the status of OpAphid has remained uncertain ever since.
Well, all of that is now behind us. I’m excited to announce that the rift in the LG15 Universe has been mended. OpAphid, Tachyon, Brother, and the entire OpAphid ARG is now officially part of the LG15 Universe canon. Yup, you heard me right. We’ll be featuring all of the OpAphid videos in their own section of the the new LG15.com just like lonelygirl15, KateModern, LG15: The Resistance, and LG15: The Last. We hope this will be the beginning of a newly invigorated and ever evolving LG15 Universe.
But that’s not all. To commemorate this momentous event we’re launching LG15: TSIY2. In this second iteration of TSIY, you can tap into the entire OpAphid back-story and characters along with the LG15 mythology you all know and love. In fact, Glenn Rubenstein will join the producers at EQAL as a judge determining the winner of LG15: TSIY2 and will provide some audiovisual assets to the winner if they choose to incorporate OpAphid characters in their show (details in the official rules).
We’ll post official rules and more information about TSIY2 in the very near future.

Awesome!!!!! I always loved the technological/mysterious spin that OpAPHID brought to LG15!
Now, does this mean that all the old OpAPHID stuff is going to be highlighted on the site, or does it mean that there’s going to be some new material/a new OpAPHID show (aside from the OpAPHID integrated TSIY2 stuff) coming to the site?

OpAphid already was canon and already appeared on lonelygirl15.com.

So… does this mean Redearth88 is canon now?
Great news BTW. This helps fill up a lot of plotholes, plus, Sibylla Weave has made me miss Oppy more!

Woah, woah, woah. Unexpected. This came really out of nowhere, but its awesome guys! This will certainly inspire more people to join TSIY! Very pleased, thanks again.

YES!

Wow, this was unexpected to say the least. First the phbb forum is reopened and now OpAphid is back as cannon.
These things will be even better when the site is upgraded and registrations are reopened on the phbb forum.

OMG. This is one of the most exciting things ever! A few questions, though:
1. Will OpAphid be releasing new videos and puzzles, etc.? Or will the old content just be moved to a new section, like lg15.com/opaphid or something like that…or will OpAphid just be integrated into TSIY2 (if chosen).
2. What does this mean for Redearth88? After Op and LG15 parted ways, basically all of the Op characters became RE88 characters and that storyline hasn’t been wrapped up. Is Rachel now a canon character? What about Linc, and his “The Home Office” characters and storyline? Are OpAphid, Tachyon, and Brother’s adventures with Rachel considered a part of the canon storyline - are characters like Aly Zarin (Tachyon undercover) going to be incorporated into the new OpAphid ARG?
3. Does this mean Glenn is officially back on board? That’s extremely exciting, guys.
Yay for exciting announcements! Looking forward to TSIY2 (I’ll have to rewrite a part of my entry to include Oppy
And of course Tachy and Bro.)

Oh! And since OpAphid’s departure from the Order only happened during the show’s RE88 period…does that mean Oppy is still working for the Order? Or is she a badass Order fighter?

This is excellent, and great news for the future.
Hey, whatever happened to that girl Cassie?

Ok… Im not sure what to make of this. Really, without any speculation, yeah? so? I don’t get why this matters. How many people still watch this series from end to end, especially with the revver period where those vids are sparsely linked to one another on the tube?
Now with speculation, it opens up that which I never thought would become true again, though until I hear anything about LG15 or The Resistance starting again, I will reserve thoughts on that.

OHAY GUYS WHATS UP THIS IS NEWS I LIKE

Thanks everyone, yeah we are really excited about this. To clarify, this DOES NOT mean that Redearth88 is canon. Even though it featured some characters from OpAphid, it’s a completely separate series. As of now there is no new OpAphid show planned, but that certainly would be cool! We’re excited to see what you guys come up with!

Nice, been waiting on this! Already got my pilot script and my pitch in their first draft, just need to know if there’s any changes I need to make.

This certainly helps clarify things within the historical context of OpAphid in relationship to the LG15 Universe (for LGpedia etc.). However in terms of how this works within TSIY there are still a lot of open questions.
Hopefully when TSIY-2 is announced the c will make it clear that they have heard all the community concerns regarding both the contest and the show. They also need to make it explicitly clear how OpAphid etc can be used within the context of TSIY or else it could lead to a great deal of confusion.
