september2star has gotten into the Halloween spirit and did some LG15-style pumpkin carving.

Artwork by Mystic Fairy

Halloween Plans: I am hanging out with my new guy friend, my family, and trick-or-treating with my little sister.

Her pick for Sarah’s Costume: I think Sara would be a seductress-vampire.

And the others? As the people in the forums said, (shout out lol) they could be lurkers, or maybe they could dress like the Hymn of None.  I think Reed should make up random things and then we vote, then they HAVE to be what Reed and us decide lol.

Maggie a Ninja?

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Artwork by michiev.

Michiev’s plans for Halloween: I’m not planning on going out for Halloween this year, but I did last year even though people say I’m too old. I went dressed up as G.I Joe because it was the only costume i could find!  I walked around for an hour and a half getting candy, it was so worth it.

Her pick for Maggie’s costume: I kind of think Maggie would dress up as a ninja. :) She just seems to be that type. Oh and the new show? FREAKING AWESOME.

Artwork by Traverse Town.

What would Jonas be for Halloween? Jonas would make a great Zombie!

We here at InsideLG15 are getting into the Halloween spirit! But this is no ordinary Halloween… this is an LG15 Halloween.  Many of you, including blonde fairy, nomorelurking, and QtheC, have changed your avatars to the Halloween theme. Let me know if you’ve changed yours and I’ll post your picture here.

One of our most prolific artists in the LG15 community, september2star, has made this haunting graphic of Sarah.

Send your LG15 inspired Halloween stories, pictures, and videos to amanda@lg15.com.

Boo!

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Did I scare you? No? Darn. Well maybe this will: A Very Special LG15 Halloween. That’s right folks, this year we here at Inside LG15 are going to be celebrating Halloween in style. LG15-style that is.

First, let’s get into the spirit.

Pumpkin + LG15 motto = LG15 Halloween

How are you going to get into the LG15 Halloween spirit? I want to see pictures of you in costume (Sexy Librarian like Sarah?), videos of you in costume, and/or a scary Halloween story that you also post to your LG15 profile page.

All of this will culminate in a LG15 Halloween party on Thursday, October 30th.  There will be prizes, a haunted house, candy, bobbing for apples, and… actually there will just be prizes. I’m not sure how’d we work that other stuff out. :)

Get your Dr. Alderman costumes ready and send me your pictures, stories, and videos! Send your submissions to amanda@lg15.com. In the meantime, change your avatar to something scary. I’ll go first.

Chapter 5 Music – Voyager One

Voyager One

Music by: Voyager One
Recommended Listen: Afterhours in the Afterlife (LP)
Suggested Tracks: The Future is Obsolete, The Kids Take Control, Darling O.K.

Contest Alert! – Tickets/CD Giveaway, Deadline Wednesday October 15th.

THIS WEEEK we begin a three-part showcase of featured music in the show from the best bands appearing right now in the 2008 CMJ Festival in New York City. Entering the ring first, the space-rock sounds of Seattle’s Voyager One. Ding Ding.

Voyager One mixes one part psychedelic rock, one part groove and zero parts pretention to make their brand of space-infused rock. There is something organic and straightforward about Voyager’s approach to songwriting. There’s an ethereal quality to every song, lots of drone, not too dark-but to the point. Lots of feeling and seemingly removed lyrics. Lots of “wonder” inspired by lots of listening. This is a rare balance that young bands find themselves spending too much time on either side of. Not for Jeramy & Co. The point is clear. Intentionally murky at times, but clear.

Voyager One have appeared at SXSW, CMJ, played live on KEXP’s “Midday Show” and toured with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. I caught them for the first time somewhere in between and knew right away they would have a place in The Resistance. The momentum is growing, the blogs have noticed. All aboard!

Even though Voyager One already has a few records under their belt I get the impression that there’s a bigger vision or plan they have yet to track down. It may take another solid record to get there. That said, if we’ve done our jobs right, this week’s episode should help send them on their way.

Contest Alert!

In honor of their Episode this week, the guys in Voyager One donated two copies of “Afterhours” and a pair of tickets to one of their CMJ shows next week in New York City. And how do you win this music and concert tix? Very simple, glad you asked.

Leave a comment on this post before Wednesday the 15th. That’s it. I’d love to know what you think about V1 but you are welcome to tell me anything. We’ll shuffle the names of every commenter who posts before Wednesday and draw the winners. Multiple entries always encouraged and certainly increase your odds. We’ll notify the lucky ones via their page on LG15.com this Thursday.

On the Fly, Off the Cuff
The Future is Obsolete – On your way to Boston? Tread carefully but ride to this.

Kids Take Control - Contemplative. Thoughtful. Us?

Favorite Video: My favorite video so far is definitely Split. I had no idea what was gonna happen; it was so intense.

Favorite Character: My favorite character is Reed. He’s hilarious, and I like how he really wants to help Jonas and Sarah.

Chapter 4 Music - The Teenagers

Teenagers

Music by: The Teenagers
Recommended Listen: Reality Check (LP)
Suggested Tracks: Scarlett Johansson, Feeling Better, Make it Happen

Who’s there for you when you’re cold and alone
The Teenagers, The Teenagers

THIS WEEK, we resist with French synth-pop trendsetting cool kid trio with serious attitude, The Teenagers (XL Recordings).

A band that takes itself too seriously is a band destined for heartbreak. That’s what my mom always said…or something. Enter The Teenagers, a group that is seductively fun (and hyper aware of the online world) without caring one shred about what you or I think. You listen to the music, you watch their videos, you read their lyrics, and you start to get it. And disguised under those incredibly edgy lyrics are hints of classical training, composition and enough self-confidence to go around.

It’s hard to ignore that every song on “Reality Check” is well crafted and has sophistication well beneath the surface. Anxiety and excitement battle throughout. This tension guides the record. Music-wise, The Teenagers are in command, no amateur hour here as far as playing goes. Hook after hook, chorus after chorus, it’s tough to put this record down. And then it starts to grow on you…look out. Above all, The Teenagers are a good time and the life of any dance party worth attending. If you are stateside, that dance party may arrive in your town sooner than you think.

I was first turned on to The Teenagers after checking out their fan-created video for “Feeling Better”. I smiled, and I laughed. I wondered if we could tell our story to their music. And this week thankfully, we find out.

On the Fly, Off the Cuff
Scarlett Johansson - Stuck on repeat. Dangerous situation. I love her too. What a hook.

Feeling Better - Self-promotion at its finest hour.

Streets of Paris - Going out music much? Find your way to the party with this.
