Where do you stand?

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Our heroes have faced many hurdles over the past year. As this week comes to an end, another milestone looms as threats become imminent, loyalties are tested, and friendships are strained. In the past, they have turned to you, the lonelygirl15 community, for advice and support. Maybe it’s time to consider which side you’re on.

Use the comments below to tell us where you stand. Maybe Daniel, Jonas, Sarah, Jennie, and Gina will seek your guidance.

Caught Off Guard

Here are a few pictures that didn’t quite make the cut, but captured entertaining moments between the actors.

Thanks, VISA and Mastercard

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Hey everyone, I just want to personally address the whole “Mark Burnett” rumor. Chris Albrecht accurately reported on NewTeeVee that contrary to a post on Anchor Cove, lonelygirl15 is NOT funded by Mark Burnett Productions. Greg and I want to let everyone know that not only have we never received funding from MBP, we’ve also never had the pleasure of meeting Mark. In the fall of 2006, Greg and I were trying desperately to keep this company afloat and to continue producing lonelygirl15. In the aftermath of all our initial publicity, we had offers for overall deals at major Hollywood studios, but we didn’t want to sign a contract that would not fully support our commitment to creating entertainment to be consumed online. This new medium is amazing and we are very fortunate to be a part of its emergence and growth. So, we did what all startups do… took out “loans” from VISA and Mastercard. We racked up considerable debt between the two of us so that we could continue paying the actors and production team working on the show at the time. Fortunately, we were introduced to a new media enthusiast through a friend and he helped us weather the tough times, let us squat in his office, and enabled lonelygirl15 to continue to grow. His investment gave us the time to forge a business model for online shows. Remember, this was back before the YouTube partner program, before advertising on MySpaceTV, and before we had figured out how to best use product and brand integration within the show to monetize the production (and before we asked for your opinion on this). We’ve worked liked maniacs to produce great shows, and to find advertisers and promotional partners to make these shows a reality. We’ve managed to cover our costs over the past year by cutting innovative deals with advertisers like Hershey’s, Neutrogena, and Fox. It’s been a challenge because for most of these advertisers lonelygirl15 was the first online entertainment brand that they contributed advertising dollars to. We are a new media studio built on sweat and passion, and any success we’ve had is because of the dedicated community that’s formed around both lonelygirl15 and KateModern (that’s all of you!). Anyway, I wanted you to hear it from me. We have a lot of exciting things coming up in the near term so stay tuned!

Marcello Daciano’s LAURA

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Last night was the the first public screening of Marcello Daciano’s short film Laura. It was a labor of love for Marcello, who wrote, directed, produced and acted in the film, which has been submitted to the Cannes Film Festival.

Marcello found inspiration from his own life when writing the film and looked to his day job to cast it. In addition to a few other talented actors, Laura also stars Katherine Pawlak and Peter James, both of whom appear on lonelygirl15.

Amanda and Greg Goodfried, along with Yousef Abu-Taleb, were in attendance to lend their support. The movies was done on a shoe-string budget, but looked like a big budget film made by a studio. We’re all very proud of Marcello!

Started watching: I’m Really, Really, Really Excited! Posted by Bree way back in the beginning. I remember there were tons and tons of videos trying to figure out if lonelygirl15 was real and you couldn’t escape it no matter where you went so I decided to “take a look.” Who knew!

Favorite video: I have tons and tons of favorites but one I can remember that left me shocked and excited all weekend was The Human Ransom !!!

Favorite character: While I love all the characters save for one, my top favorite is Jonas but I really think Gina could become a really interesting character.

Favorite Video: My favorite video of Season Three so far is I’ve Never Done This Before from Gina because it shows what kind of person she is… she draws when she’s upset, and her drawings are very personal to her. I Lost It because you can see how honestly sorry Jonas feels in the way he talks and the way he thinks about what he said that day. He regrets it a lot. But the others are nowhere near forgiving him.

Favorite Character: Daniel. He’s not as unbalanced as Jonas is lol. :)

How can we be lovers if we can’t be friends?

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Last week we saw Daniel and Sarah’s relationship hit another roadblock when Sarah retrieved Gina’s drawings (that had been ripped up and apparently thrown away) and posted them publicly. Daniel was visibly and upset by her actions and accused Sarah of violating Gina’s privacy.

Daniel and Sarah’s relationship has been complicated from the beginning. Read the lgpedia for a detailed history.

LG15: The Story of a Family

When he started watching: The first video that I saw was Swimming!! (I think it was because I saw it on the most viewed list), but I didn’t start actually following it until right after Bree’s dad died (The Unthinkable Happened). When I saw that video, I decided that I should catch up on the other videos, and since that, I’ve been hooked!

Favorite video: My favorite episodes would have to be the entire Proving Science Wrong series (I wish there would have been more before she died. :(

Favorite character: My favorite characters would have to be Sarah and Emma. Sarah because she is VERY funny when she uses her sarcasm, and Emma because she reminds me a little of Bree from the first few episodes.

Thank you Chris! This was an awesome video!! Submit your video or artwork for InsideLG15 to amanda@lg15.com.

From the set

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

The preparations for Hangover Hell began early in the day with Yousef Abu-Taleb (Daniel) in the kitchen. With a large supply of eggs, bacon, and toast, Yousef put his cooking skills to work making everyone breakfast. By the time we were done filming, however, I think everyone involved was over the taste and smell of eggs.

Tokyo, meet lonelygirl15

lg15billboard.jpg

Randy (aka ThatFreakinRandy) has made our wildest dreams come true by leasing a billboard in Tokyo to publicize lonelygirl15. Well, not really … but, according to Randy, “That’s the beauty of photoshop. You can pretty much bend reality.”

Thanks Randy!

Gina’s Drawings

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Sarah just made the following post in the in-character section of the forum at www.lg15.com/lonelygirl15:

“Here are the pieces of Gina’s ripped up drawings. Can you guys put the pieces back together?”

Can you help Sarah?

When she started watching: I watched all of season one and two up to KIDNAPPED! in a couple days. I’ve seen every video since the day it was posted. I started watching KateModern after I Miss You was posted.

Favorite video: The Human Ransom because it’s so cool (LOVE Tachyon’s theme song!). I hAtE tHeSe PeOpLe because Jessica Rose does crazy Bree well. And What Up Blogosphere! because it’s typical Spencer. My favorite KateModern videos are Abstract Heart and The Days - Evil Girls.

Favorite Character: LG15- Spencer! The perfect combination of fun, geekiness, and sweetness.:) I’m also a big Bree fan for pretty much the same reasons as Spencer (just replace “geekiness” with “occasional dork”). KateModern - Charlie. She cares so much about her friends (at least, until they do something stupid… Gav.). Lee is also a lot of fun to watch even though I’d hate to be anywhere near him!

When he started watching: Started with the episode Boy Problems… and I have been a big fan ever since.

Favorite Video: I have two, I love Proving Science Wrong… with Lonelybeast and Danielgirl15. It is just so funny, I laugh every time I watch it. My other favorite is Christmas Surprise. I was so overjoyed to see Daniel and Bree back together.

Favorite Character: I got to give it up for my man Daniel. Even though he sometimes flaked he always came back and helped his friends out in the end, and has come through so many times for TAAG. And he is just such a cool mac daddy with the ladies. Danielbeast for ‘08!
